Neglected lodges !!!

Came for two weeks, I don't know where to start, so bullet points will have to do;
* We arrived at 7:02pm this is after check in time which we knew so we was patiently waiting for security to support us. No staff spoke English after closing and they had to call someone back. We tried using Google translate... but with little luck.
* Initial check in was simple and quick, we was given keys and a map to where we were based with the route highlighted. We was told to return the next morning for activity bands.
* Me and another family we travelled with were thankfully situated next to each other without paying the €30 extra for this.
* Both families were in the same accomodation with so many differences! They had items we did not and this is how we found out we didn't receive a welcome pack.
* We returned the next morning to pick the parc bands to be told we had to put down a €150 damage waiver deposit to which we obliged but told them there was already so much damage to the accommodation, holes in floors, doors don't shut fully, TVs don't work, leaky sink and mouldy curtains to which we were told "any damage to the accomodation that is not listed before your arrival will be charged to your account" we challenged this as the damage was already there.
* There is a gym onsite and looks really nice. You have to put down a €50 deposit to use this, we didn't bother, we ran around the lakes a couple of times instead.
* Fishing licences are also mandatory and you have to pay for these at the reception.
* I wouldn't go into any of the restaurants to eat, we went in one night and ordered beef burgers, these came raw and bloody! When we questioned this, the staff took them and brought 4 more with no difference in cooking texture.
* We found a steak knife in the sand that a child had stood on !!
* Shower/hot water was not fixed for the duration of our stay.
* €50 deposit to play mini golf. This was returned if we brought all the clubs and balls back (which we did)
Positives:
* Everything on site is nicely labelled.
* The small bakery and mini market staff are the real hard working ones and deserve a special mention. We enjoyed walking for a baguette and pastry every morning.
* All the kiosk staff are really friendly
* Lifeguards are very attentive and use walkie talkies between the 3 pools to communicate with each other.
* The beach bar food was nice.

First and last.

This is a big, busy site, with a good water park but it seemed like the ethos was to maximise profit from a captive audience before the season ended. We were here for 7 nights and our standard pitch offered zero privacy & space between us and our neighbours. There were a few sparse and underdeveloped... shrubs to mark the boundary. This didn’t reflect over €100 euros per night. Everything was pricey on site which might be expected but doesn’t make it right. We paid €25.80 for 2 pints of Leffe and a can of coke and a can of apple juice in one of the bars. I was also short changed by one of the straight faced barmen in the same bar who immediately rectified his apparent error without question. We were seated by staff one evening in one of the on site restaurants for a meal for four but were then consequently ignored for so long we watched another table who arrived after us get their drinks and food. We walked out choosing somewhere else. The water park here includes a huge concrete structure which provides a sun terrace but really isn’t in keeping with the surrounds. Shower water went cooler around 7pm but was good around 5pm. There is a lovely nearby coastal town Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains about 10 mins bike ride away which is worth exploring. The site beach and coastline albeit quite a hike from our pitch, is lovely and there are good facilities at this site however we had a much better stay up the road at the cheaper Le Col Vert (which I recommend) next to Lake Leon. It offered better pitches set in natural woodland, regular free activities and regular free bus transfers to a beautiful beach, plage de saint girons which had shops, restaurants and cheaper surf board hire than that at Le Viuex Port.

This is a nice campsite a short walk from a beautiful beach. We had a terrible incident with staff in the campsite's arcade, which required our children to file reports with the Gendarmerie. The reason for our poor rating is not the campsite itself, but its management's handling (or lack thereof) of... this incident. If you are looking to book, we would strongly recommend you book through an agent. We were lucky to have booked through Eurocamp, and we could not commend highly enough the support and advice they gave us. We were very grateful to the Eurocamp staff on site at the time, and subsequently on our return to Ireland. While we won't ever book Le Vieux Port again, or indeed any of the Resasol owned sites, we will certainly book through Eurocamp in future.

Family break by the beach

We stayed here for 8 nights and it was lovely. It’s a big place and everywhere was a long walk but the beach was perfect especially at low tide. Men - Do NOT attempt to wear anything other than tight fitting trunks. Anything that is not that and you will get whistled at and ordered to leave the pool... and that’s any age too.
Best burger on site was actually the smash one from the takeaway.
I can’t recommend the baguettes from the Spar, they are very hard and chewy. The Casino supermarket baguettes were perfect but need to cycle or drive there unless you like a long walk.
We ate at the on-site restaurant which was average and also expensive so we had a far nicer meal from the take away kiosk and sat on the benches outside.
Churos and ice cream lady serves the best but it’s slow which is the only downside.
On site entertainment was ok but the best entertainment by far is the bull dodging arena. Get there early to get a seat, you have seen nothing like it.
The local town is nice at night but very very busy if you want to eat you will queue.

Mixed review.

This was our 3rd visit to Le Vieux Port, although we’d not been since 2018. We stay on a VIP camping pitch in our Motorhome. Our pitch was in orange, lovely & shady under the trees & the VIP pitch gives you your own toilet, shower, fridge, sink, dishwasher & outside BBQ. Food onsite was good, cocktails... at pool bar were lovely! Town of Vieux Bocanu (10 minute bike ride) has lovely restaurants (Gypsy Kitchen is a must!) & gift shops. Beach is lovely, it’s definitely worth the hill climb, made easier with electric bikes ;) However, check in is still a shambles with everyone wanting to check in at 4pm & only 3 members of staff working in reception (who were lovely). Car park is mayhem with nowhere to park our van, we just ended up dumping it in a lay by. Get to front of the queue in reception to be told our pitch wasn’t ready, after a long drive, that’s not want you want to hear. It was another hour before we were given our pitch numbers. Pool ok, it’s been upgraded with some new slides. Water bath you are made to walk through before going into pool area was dirty with black sludgey water & pool area wasn’t what I’d expect from a site that advertises itself as 5*. There was rubbish left under sunbeds, cigarette butts, gate to get into pool complex was filthy. Still a great holiday, but site does seem a little run down since last visit.
